Biography

Dr. Zachary West was born and raised north of Tiffin. He is a third generation resident of Seneca County and a graduate of Old Fort Local High School (Old Fort, Ohio). Dr. West took part in the Ohio Post-Secondary Enrollment Options program while still in high school and attended Terra State Community College (Fremont, Ohio) completing an Associate of Science in both pre-allied health and natural & biological sciences.

Dr. West continued his studies at Youngstown State University (Youngstown, Ohio) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology. He next attended the Northwest Ohio Consortium for Public Health and graduated with a Master of Public Health.

Dr. West attended medical school at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (Athens, Ohio) and completed the clinical portion of his studies at Firelands Regional Medical Center (Sandusky, Ohio). In medical school, Dr. West was awarded the distinction of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Honors Student. Dr. West graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (“DO”) and became a licensed physician in the State of Ohio.

Dr. West completed residency training at Fairfield Medical Center (Lancaster, Ohio) and during his final year of residency was promoted to “Chief Resident”. He is board certified in internal medicine through the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. West pursued additional specialty training in osteopathic manipulative medicine by completing a fellowship in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center (Bangor, Maine). He is also board certified in osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine through the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.

Dr. West continues to further his knowledge of osteopathic internal medicine and strengthen his manual medicine skills by actively participating in continuing medical education and additional post graduate programs. He is an active member of the American College of Osteopathic Internists where he serves as a member of the Osteopathic Integration Task Force. He has achieved the distinction of Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (“FACOI”) from the American College of Osteopathic Internists.

On Monday, September 26, 2022, Dr. West was appointed as a member of the Board of Health for the Seneca County General Health District. On Thursday, December 29, 2022, Dr. West was first elected by Seneca County Board of Health to the position of Vice President for the 2023 term. Dr. West was again elected by the Seneca County Board of Health to the position of Vice President for the 2024 term.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Dr. West won the Republican primary election for Seneca County Coroner.
